Updates from the Practice Team

MMR update

Sep 19 2019

The latest information that we have from the DHB and Ministry of Health is as follows:

The Ministry of Health and District Health Board are currently in discussion regarding the distribution of the MMR vaccines.

We do not have any MMR vaccines in stock at present and are unable to order these from the supplier.

When stock is allocated to us we will be using this to protect our most vulnerable populations and only vaccinating people from priority groups.

The priority for practices outside of Auckland will be

  •  To maintain the Childhood Immunisation Schedule with the first dose of MMR vaccine being given at 15 months and the second at 4 years of age
  •  Infants travelling to Auckland can be given MMR 1 from 12 months of age. This should happen at least 2 weeks before travel

We will continue to update our website on a regular basis.

Measles Update

Sep 06 2019

There is currently a Measles outbreak in Auckland.

Most people born in the 1970s or 1980s will have been offered one dose of measles vaccine as children, those born from the 1990s onwards may have been offered two doses.  For any adult born since 1969 in New Zealand who has received only  a single dose of MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) in childhood, a second dose is recommended to achieve full protection, particularly against measles.

The priority groups for vaccination are:

  • Babies aged 12-14 months travelling to Auckland are recommended to have their 1st MMR early at 12m. Ideally 2 weeks before travel to allow protection to develop
  • People travelling to Auckland, particularly Pacific or Maori people visiting family and friends in South Auckland
  • People (including babies 6-12months) travelling overseas where large measles outbreaks are occurring. Further advice and details of countries with measles outbreaks can be found at www.immune.org.nz/hot-topic/measles-overseas-and-new-zealand
  • Opportunistic immunisation of people aged < 50 years who have not had a measles immunisation especially healthcare and education and childcare workers. A table showing people who may not be protected by year of birth can be accessed on our website www.rph.org.nz/measles

f you are the parent or caregiver to a child aged 0-14 years you can email RES-NIR@huttvalleydhb.org.nz and ask for a copy of their National Immunisation Register (NIR) record for measles. You will need to provide:

 Childs first and last name
 Date of birth
 NHI (if known)
 Mothers first and last name. This will ensure we get the correct record if there are children with similar names born on the same day

Closing at 5pm on Thursday 1st August

Jul 31 2019

We will be closing at 5 pm on Thursday 1st August,. Apologies for any inconvenience this causes.
